Art Training/Education: Over the years, I have studied with several U.S. and international artists, both stateside and overseas. I continued my art studies in the mediums of oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, collage, copper relief, sculpture and plaster casting, tole painting, ceramics, graphite/color pencil drawing, printmaking, and two-dimensional design. I am a graduate of Studio Art/Art History from West Florida University, Pensacola, Florida, and I also have a Masters Degree in Art History from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. Professional Memberships: Since moving to Sun City in 2007, I am an active member of the Sun City Visual Arts Club (VAC), the Williamson County Art Guild (WCAG), and the Central Texas Pastel Society (CTPS). I regularly display my work at VAC, WCAG, and CTPS art venues.

I began exploring the arts in the late 1970’s. While serving over 32 years in the United
States Air Force, I put my pursuit of art on the back burner, and since retiring in 2001
I have brought my passion for art forward again.
I like to try many mediums and combinations of mediums in my art. I do traditional
representative work, but often I like to push for more nonrepresentational designs or a
melding of both. I believe that art is the essence of the soul. Life experiences and
emotions play a big part in colors I choose and what I may paint in the moment.
I may sign the back or front of my artwork “Bagel”, “V. Nicklen”, “V.M. Nicklen”, or
“V.M.N.”
