Kerry Whitfill was the WCAG People’s Choice Award winner for December 2009 for “Take
Me Home”. “Take Me Home” is the kind of picture you see when someone is asking you to
help out a stray for charity. Oddly enough within a year or so of painting this I had to
put my dog to sleep, adopted another dog and got involved in fostering rescued dogs – one
of whom looked just like the dog in the painting and is now a permanent part of our home.
I began painting as a teenager and studied first with Jeannine Campbell and later George
Gonzalez. Today painting gives me a respite from teaching teenagers myself.
I like to paint realistic animals, seascapes and landscapes and enjoy hearing people say
they feel they could step into the painting or reach out and pet the animal painted
there. My preferred medium is oil but I experiment with acrylics, watercolors, and
painting an occasional mural.
