Like so many artists, Sue has loved and excelled in art since early childhood. While studying for a Bachelor in Education, she acquired a minor in Art and Art History, but upon graduation, a career, marriage, family, and other life endeavors sidetracked this artist from her passion for many years. Retired now from occupations that include teaching, banking, marketing for both profit and non-profit organizations, and owning and running a bed-and-breakfast (Sue and her husband created the San Gabriel House Bed and Breakfast in Georgetown and ran it for five years before they sold it and moved to Austin), Sue is focused on developing her art. She has immersed herself once again in painting and study, also networking and volunteering in the arts community.
Mediums in which she currently paints are oil, acrylic, and watercolor, but a recent workshop led her to soft pastel. This has quickly become her favorite medium because of the lush, vibrant colors readily available and the luminous, dreamy quality of the medium. The hallmarks of Sue's style are a dramatic and joyous use of strong color and bold composition, and the juxtaposition of light and shadow in her work.
Sue is a member of the Williamson County Art Guild, the Austin Waterloo Watercolor Group, and the Austin Pastel Society. Her work has been exhibited in shows for all these groups. In 2007, she received a Merit Award in the Waterloo Watercolor Group Annual Fall Exhibition juried show. In 2005, two of her pieces tied each other for the Williamson County Art Guild's People's Choice Award. Sue has served on the Board of WCAG and currently serves on the Board of Waterloo Watercolor Group as Show Chair.
